Another quiet week at the Pole. And although it was not long ago that all the winterovers at the South Pole station felt more or less relaxed about their aurora photography opportunities, now there is a bit more commotion as the darkest part of the (long) polar night is coming to an end. Winterovers are getting busier, with more custom set-ups for timelapse photography and other such pursuits. This is winter at the South Pole—as IceCube’s winterovers put it, “It is very dark, too windy, ridiculously cold, and yet so exciting down here.”
