Week 28 at the Pole

It was a quiet week at the Pole. And just as well…some folks appreciated some time to recover from the Polympics. But the sky was not quiet. Check out the nice aurora shot using a fisheye lens above, and below, where the surface snow is bathed entirely in green. IceCube winterover John also got nice before/after shots of an aurora over the South Pole station in the distance—now you see it, now you don’t. But even on quite weeks there’s still work going on. Last week the winterovers began documenting snow accumulation on the IceAct telescopes with respect to temperature. The last image below shows the IceAct telescope with heater coils turned on.
