Week 6 at the Pole

It’s still light outside, but winter at the South Pole is fast approaching.  There were both arrivals and departures last week, and we can see that the departures (above) well outnumbered the arrivals (below).  At this point, all the winterovers who will remain on station for this winter have arrived, and team building activities are scheduled for next week.  Last week there were science tours arranged for the new arrivals—IceCube winterovers Martin and Josh gave a tour of the ICL.  The South Pole Telescope also gave a science tour, and Martin took photographs there, capturing a nice view of the impressive structure through the opened roof below (last image).
