Week 42 at the Pole

There was plenty of detector maintenance and troubleshooting last week to keep IceCube’s winterovers busy. The detector doesn’t know about all the Nobel hoopla, so…it just keeps doing its thing. There was a hard drive that needed to be replaced, and a few software updates to do. On the Upgrade side of things, calibration operations were carried out on some of the special devices. The winterovers did take a break, though, to participate in a call with a Swedish television crew who were in Madison, WI, filming Francis Halzen during the IceCube Collaboration meeting. With the increasing daylight, all kinds of things are being rediscovered outside at the Pole. The station continues preparing for summer opening, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first planes.
