The new year started off on a quiet note at the South Pole. Last week, with a well-behaved IceCube detector and many holiday celebrations behind them, the winterover crew enjoyed a relatively quiet week, with some nice weather and perhaps a little more free time on their hands. They spent some of that time continuing to collect images and footage for an upcoming documentary film, which took them to several areas around the station and into the ice tunnels to capture all the shrines—always an exciting trip. They bid farewell to two departing IceCube personnel and welcomed visitors from COLDEX who gave a science lecture on their radar investigations in Antarctica.
