Some things are predictable. The sun will set, eventually—and as we know, at the South Pole it’s a drawn-out process. What’s not foreseeable is whether the skies will be clear enough to capture a nice image of that last flicker before the sun goes below the horizon. Last week at the Pole, a big storm rolled in that threatened to put a damper on the sunset activities. But it cleared in time for the winterovers to capture some great photos and bid the sun adieu for a while. The storm returned later, but then all attention was focused on the special meal served for the sunset dinner.
