Week 41 at the Pole

Now that you can see what you’re doing outside, it’s time for outdoor activities. Unfortunately, it’s still cold (very cold), and there’s no guarantee that the sun will be out. In fact, here’s IceCube winterover James braving what appears to be rather poor conditions to take some height measurements for calibrating a new IceTop sensor. The black and white image below is of James making his way out to the ICL, not visible in the photo. The buildings in the background are DSL and MAPO. James was apparently busy last week—at the end of the week he gave a talk on multimessenger astronomy, with some props to make it … extra “sciencey.”
