It was a busy week for IceCube’s winterovers, dealing with power failures and detector issues. Perhaps it made the celebration at the end of the week all the more welcome—they were observing midwinter at the station, which traditionally ends with a viewing of “The Shining.” But first there was a fancy dinner. The dress code was relaxed but the menu and table settings a bit more formal. Midwinter greetings from other Antarctic stations were also put up on display. Out in the skies last week, Christian caught a shot of a nice moon halo, sitting between the South Pole Telescope and MAPO and alongside a curtain of faint auroras, as seen from the ICL.
