It was a busy week at the Pole. Cargo destined for the IceCube Lab arrived, shown above while it was being unloaded. Below, a smaller load of cargo is packed on a sled to get it back to the station by snowmobile. Besides dealing with heavy boxes, IceCube’s winterovers were busy with computer upgrades and other equipment performance issues. Also last week, the first South Pole traverse, SPOT1, arrived at the Pole, pulling the usual fuel bladders for winter but also some additional cargo for IceCube. IceCube winterover Marc is shown marshalling an LC-130 into place as part of his training, since he was selected to fuel the last planes before station closing. And IceCube winterover Hrvoje is seen in the bottom image sporting a new t-shirt for a pose in front of a sun dog.
