Week 41 at the Pole

Last week was time for a group photo! The sun is up now, so you can take photos of things outdoors other than the sky (not that the winter sky isn’t glorious). Plus, one of the planes that had arrived the previous week served as a nice backdrop for a photo shoot before it returned to McMurdo. The week was generally busy for IceCube’s winterovers, with regular IceTop maintenance and continued preparations for the summer season. The station took in an opera, the last in a running series they had been enjoying in the big gym monthly. And on Sunday, the kitchen staff’s day off, a volunteer went all in to provide the station a real treat—takoyaki, a staple of Japanese street food.
